Migratory Student Services
Northwest Education Services (North Ed) seeks to ensure migratory students and their families and English Learners have their educational and human services met. Services span seven counties including Antrim, Benzie, Charlevoix, Emmet, Grand Traverse, Kalkaska, Leelanau and Manistee through a partnership with Char-Em and Manistee ISDs. We collaborate with 25 school districts and organizations across the region to provide students and families with a strong network of support.
Title I Part C- Migrant Education Program
The Migrant Education Program is designed to support high quality, comprehensive educational programs for migratory children to help reduce the educational disruptions and other problems that result from repeated moves. The program provides educational and support services to migratory children and youth through both regular school year and summer programs. Children may be eligible if their families have moved within the previous 36 months and engaged in temporary or seasonal work in agriculture or fishing. Eligibility is determined through a recruitment process and the completion of a Certificate of Eligibility. Priority is given to children who have made a qualifying move in the last twelve months and are failing, or most at risk of failing, to meet the challenging State academic standards, or have dropped out of school.
FACT: 85% of this region's migrant students are English Learners
